The Georgia College & State University Volleyball Team (1-2) hosted the annual Bobcat Classic Tournament.

GCSU kicked off the tournament Friday against West Virginia State University where they took a three-set loss.

Ally Hall hailing from Cumming, Georgia led the offense with eight kills and 10 digs she also had two of the three service aces for the Bobcats. The lone senior Emily Long from Mooresville, North Carolina accounted for 17 assists to lead the squad.

Making her debut for the Bobcats Alanis Bernis from Auburn, Georgia tied Hall for 10 digs.

Between Hall and Bernis they accounted for almost half of the digs for GCSU as there was 43 total.

The next game for the Bobcats came Saturday as they played yet another tough opponent in Limestone University.

Georgia College went up early taking the first two sets from the Saints but ultimately took the five-set loss. This was an impressive game for several players as there were five players with double-digit digs. Hall led the defense recording 20 kills and she also had an incredible serving performance with five service aces to lead both squads.

Callie Miller the junior from Acworth, Georgia was the only player to record a double-double as she had 13 kills and 11 digs. Brooke Roberts the junior transfer hailing from Rome, Georgia was a menace on the front row with 11 kills and six total blocks. Mary Kate Kotzin from Dunwoody, Georgia also had six blocks on the day and added six kills to her name. The setter Long added 26 more assists to her season campaign.

The final game of the tournament was a solid three-set win for the Bobcats over Southern Wesleyan University. Hall led the offense yet again this game as she picked up her second double-double of the day as she had 12 digs and 12 kills. Roberts also had a stellar game with 10 kills and five total blocks. Both setters in Long who had 19 assists and Riese Johnson from Cumming, Georgia had 16 assists and had stellar performances to hoist the Bobcats over the Warriors. Preseason All-PBC Team member Rachel Machovec made her debut in the green and blue snagging a service ace and eight digs.

Machovec was battling a shoulder injury so she couldn’t attempt any kills.

The Bobcats will travel to Mars Hill Friday, Sept.

2 for their annual tournament as they take on King University at Tennessee in their first contest. First serve is set for 11 a.m. with their second game against Coker College set for 5:45 p.m. They will wrap up the tournament Saturday against the host team of Mars Hill at 12 p.m. with live stats and broadcast links available for all games at GCBobcats.com
